Blacksmith in the back alley

This man was forging iron at a blacksmith’s shop in a back alley. In rural India, kitchen knives and blades used for hoes and sickles by farming are made individually by hand, in an old-fashioned way. With a heavy hammer, the smith pound sheets of red hot iron heated over burning coal. I felt that his soot-covered shirt was proof of his pride as a blacksmith.
